This is a smart trash bin that uses a servo motor, a micro:bit, and an ultrasonic sensor. The ultrasonic sensor is used to detect objects in front of the trash bin, such as a person’s hand. When an object is detected at a certain distance, the micro:bit processes the data and sends a signal to the servo motor. The servo motor then opens the lid automatically, so users do not need to touch the trash bin.
This project was made to improve cleanliness and hygiene by reducing direct contact with the trash bin. We worked on this project for about one and a half weeks, starting from planning, assembling the components, coding the micro:bit, until testing the final result. This smart trash bin was created by our team, consisting of Faezya, Arkenzie, and me. Through this project, we learned teamwork, basic electronics, and simple programming.
